Guest v-log: Melissa Walker
This week’s guest blogger is the fantabulous Melissa Walker, author of Violet on the Runway, Violet By Design, and Violet in Private coming August 5. When I asked Melissa if she’d do a guest blog for YA New York, she totally one-upped me and offered to do a v-log. AND she said it’s the first one she’s ever done. So we are super-lucky today, don’t you agree?
Without further ado, here is Melissa’s v-log:

Great vlog Melissa! I remember hearing about that book and about “the twist” since then I’ve always wanted to read it. PS Is that a large stack of books behind you? I wish I could get mine to stand that tall!

Yeah, actually … Flowers in the Attic is the only book any guest blogger has reviewed so far that I didn’t read as a kid. Or as an adult. Or as a kid and an adult. But seriously? I’m totally going to dig around for it next time I’m at the Strand (aka, NYC’s greatest used bookstore, with almost an entire floor dedicated to kid lit of all sorts). Because Melissa has me convinced.
Anyway, by the time I noticed VC Andrews on the shelves, I was already reading Judith McNaught’s historical romance novels — not nearly as trashy as some of the others. But I felt like it would be too embarrassing to walk around holding a VC Andrews book. Meanwhile, I had no problem carrying trashy romance novels to school with me.

I LOVED VC Andrews’ books!!! Melissa, if you read this, that will be another thing we can discuss as well (did you know Alexa Young also enjoys VC Andrews? She and I had a little discussion about it via email one time, haha) along with Clue, hehe. Although I haven’t yet read Flowers in the Attic, I have read My Sweet Audrina (yes, it is a standalone) and everything from the Logan series up to the first book of the Gemini series.
Oh, and they’re back with the holes in the covers now with the past couple books.
Anyway, great guest vlog!! I loved it, and how exciting that you talked about one of my former obsessions (not as into VC Andrews books now as I was a while back).

I’ve never read those books. I’ll have to look for it sometime soon.
I love books with holes on the cover like that. It’s very nifty.
Great vlog.:D
hope.

I read all the books by VC Andrews…and loved them! I remember that my mother would read them first (because she bought them) and I would anxiously wait for her to finish so I could read them. Looking back on it, I also feel weird about them now because of the controversial topic. My daughter is 14 and I don’t know if I’d want her to read it?!?

I liked the Flowers in the Attic series too. I’m actually surprised I was allowed to read them because of their content. I might just have to pick them up again, as it’s been a while since I read them.
Great v-log.

Loved Flowers in the Attic! That was one, if not THE ONE, of my most favorite books as a teen!
